The Wellington Catholic District School Board is excited to welcome international students in our secondary schools this fall. When we welcome international students, our school programs benefit, our community benefits, and local students have an opportunity to learn about different cultures and have experiences that positively shape their worldviews. Our partner agency, MLI Homestay is currently looking for host families for students while they are attending our schools. This is a longstanding MLI program and they are excited to be now bringing it to our community.
This fall, we will be welcoming a group of international students from Japan to attend Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School and St. James Catholic High School for a short-term from September 28 until November 16. Through this international program, students stay with families in the area where they study to provide a fully immersive experience for the students involved. Families receive a generous honorarium for hosting students and are responsible to provide three meals per day and accommodations (i.e., private room with window, desk, bed, etc.) for the duration of the stay. You can help by inviting international students to stay with your family while they study in our area or share this information with friends or relatives who may be able to host. All interested hosts are welcomed!
To support our homestay families, we’ve partnered with MLI Homestay, a Canadian business that has been a leader in homestay for over 25 years. MLI ensures their Local Coordinators are connected to the host community and carefully select the host families following a stringent screening process. Families and visiting students have access to support 24/7 and an allowance to help offset expenses.
